Statement from New Zealand Opera General Director Thomas de Mallet Burgess:
"We are all extremely disappointed that The Unruly Tourists as a part of Te Ahurei Toi o Tāmaki/Auckland Arts Festival in March cannot proceed as planned given the limitations of the red traffic light setting at this time and the predicted impact of Omicron over the next few months.
Development workshop rehearsals taking place last week and this week with our talented cast have shown me that audiences - including those who already love opera as well as those who are to experience it for the first time - will love the witty, contemporary and intelligent writing.
This is a dynamic and immersive piece of comic theatre that I believe is too good not to be appreciated as live performance.
We are currently working on a postponement date for this premiere season."
